Love to travel? A little bit adventurous? An elopement probably sounds pretty appealing to you (assuming you’ve met someone you like enough to commit your life to, of course). Getting married away is more popular than ever as more and more couples realize that there is nothing forcing them to have a traditional wedding. Some travel from nearby and some travel from far abroad simply because they love the idea of exploring somewhere new with the person they love.
Andrea and Curtis fall into the latter category, travelling all the way from Winnipeg, Canada to say their “I Do’s” in Ireland. They had originally planned on eloping just the two of them, but when they shared their plans with their close friends and family everyone wanted to come and they began planning a small destination wedding instead. A small group of 18, they made their way from Dublin to the Wicklow Mountains to get married in the rain- romantic much? Choosing a quiet spot beside a lake, with the majestic Wicklow Mountains looming in the background, they could not have chosen a more beautiful place to tie the knot.
I was able to help the couple plan out their destination wedding by recommending suppliers and creating a plan for the day, making sure all the most important bits were captured! I travelled over ahead of time, along with my very talented friend and florist extraordinaire, Amanda of The Floral Design Boutique, to do a bit of location scouting and ensure that we were well prepared before the day arrived.
After getting ready for the day in Dublin, we blindfolded Curtis and kept him that way for our journey over to Wicklow, with Andrea getting on the bus after him to ensure that the first time he would see his bride to be was when we arrived at the spot they would be married. An hour long journey allowed the anticipation to build and by the time we arrived at our destination we had one very anxious and excited groom! Wedding first looks are pretty darn special, with the most genuine reactions and emotions coming to the surface on a day that is already so sentimental. There were happy tears, big smiles and a whole lot of happiness and those things remained throughout the day, from a heartfelt intimate ceremony performed by the couple’s friend to a lively celebration in the small local pub afterwards. Here are a few of my favourite moments from their day, thanks again A + C for entrusting me to capture it!
