Relaxed & Natural newborn baby photography in Glasgow & central Scotland

I’m just going to say it: becoming a parent is pretty crazy. It is the most amazing, love-filled life changing experience but also the most overwhelming and emotional time of your lives. The raw, instinctual feelings that flood over you as you hold your baby for the first time; this tiny, amazing person who you only just met yet are already so in love with. The tiny stretches, the contented snuggles and the feeling of skin on skin. The most exhausted, and yet the most happy you’ve ever been. Those joyous, sleep deprived first days and weeks together as a family go by as a blur and things don’t slow down much from there- I know this now with two of my own.

Photographs capture these moments in time and keep your memories safe- those first yawns and teeny tiny toes, curious expressions and mischievous grins, milestone birthdays and proud firsts. You can’t stop your baby from growing and changing (as much as you might want to sometimes) but you can document all those special firsts, so that you’ll always be able to look back and remember just how small they once were. It’s not just for you- imagine having these photos to show your curious five year old, your angsty teen, your future grandchildren: they’ll have beautiful proof of the love that was growing right from the start.

Why book a photography session for your baby?

Documenting this very special stage in your lives with a relaxed and natural in home photography session gives you a timeless keepsake of your baby’s first days and milestones, photos that you will treasure yourself, share with your child, and eventually pass on to their children one day.

Many parents have shared their regret of not getting professional photos of their baby in those first few weeks or months, realizing when it’s already too late that all they have from those precious first days or first birthdays are some blurry photos on their phone. Once those moments are gone, there’s just no getting them back: your baby will never be that little again.

Why an in home session?

In home sessions offer a relaxed and natural alternative to traditional studio photography. Instead of putting your baby into unnatural poses and setups, your baby will lead the session, with a focus on capturing their natural movements and interactions with you and with the world around them. It’s extra special to have photographs of your baby in their first home, documenting life as it really was at this moment in time. Sentimental value aside, it’s also much more comfortable for both you and your baby to be in your own familiar space, where everything you might need is within easy reach.

Stressed about getting your photo taken?

As parents of a baby, it’s safe to say you are exhausted, emotionally drained and probably still recovering from giving birth. I remember the pain, bleeding and adult nappies far too well and the last thing I wanted to do was star in a photoshoot with my daughters. But I did: because I knew how quickly that time would pass, and how much those photos would mean to all of us one day.

95% of my clients tell me they are awkward/hate being in photos ahead of our session. But afterwards? I have a perfect track record for feedback like “that was actually kind of fun” or “you really did take the stress out” or “I actually like myself in these photos.”

My baby photography sessions are done in the comfort of your own home, and my style and approach help to create a relaxed, calm and comfortable experience for both you and your baby. I’ll offer light directions so you know what to do, but we’ll keep things as candid as possible- no need to worry about awkward poses.

There are no rigid timelines or strict schedules and your baby can have as many cuddle and feeding breaks as they need. I’ve been a newborn & baby photographer in Glasgow for over a decade now, and that experience, combined with my patient and laid back approach ensures a positive experience both for your family.

What happens if my baby just won’t cooperate?

It can sometimes take your baby some time to settle, and they may need cuddle and feeding breaks to keep them happy and comfortable.

As an experienced children’s photographer I am used to this and there is no reason to stress; I love working with babies and I promise to stay calm and patient. If you or your baby is having an especially tough day (this parent thing isn’t easy!) we can simply rearrange your session: there is no point pushing them for photos when they aren’t feeling 100%.

This is a policy I have always offered, as babies are unpredictable and our session won’t be relaxed or enjoyable if you or your baby are feeling stressed.

What type of sessions do you offer?

And when should we book?

Lifestyle newborn sessions can be booked for anytime, but I would recommend booking yours before your baby reaches eight weeks old to truly capture that “newborn” stage.

Newborn sessions can be booked anytime from your 20 week scan onwards and the sooner you book in the better – I only take a very limited number of these sessions each month and spots tend to book up quickly.

Baby sessions are tailored specifically for your baby’s age anytime from 8 weeks old to one year old and capture your baby’s growing personality as well the growing relationship between you as a family.

And 1st birthday sessions, well, I don’t need to tell you when they are. But they’re a heck of a lot of fun now that baby has really grown into themselves!

“You truly do such amazing work!”

It means the world to us that you’ve captured it all, the candid moments and the tiny details – and it’s so special that you’ve been able to do newborn photos for Ben and also for Nora.
