Intimate Distillery Wedding in Scotland with Sequin Wedding Dress

What. A. Wedding. What a venue! What a couple! What a day.

You can probably already tell how much I loved photographing Abbie and David’s very quirky, alternative wedding at the fab Clydeside Distillery. Both Abbie and David were keen to do things their way, they wanted their wedding to reflect the things they love and they definitely made that happen.

Weddings at Clydeside Distillery

Abbie and David were the second couple to ever get married at Clydeside Distillery. It’s the new kid on Glasgow’s alternative wedding venue scene and I can tell you now, it’s going to be a very popular venue.

Opening in 2017, Clydeside was the first active whisky distillery to open in Glasgow for over a century. Housed in an old pump house overlooking the River Clyde, David actually worked on the building’s conversion so this is a place that has a special meaning for them. Plus, they’re both huge whisky lovers so it obviously ticked that box too!

Alternative Glasgow wedding venue

Abbie and David had planned an evening wedding ceremony and there was a real buzz as their guests arrived for the ceremony. They were all keen to see inside the distillery and I could hear people chatting away about the amazing building and the fab location.

Abbie and David had kept their decor to a minimum. They didn’t want to detract from the exposed pipework, old stone walls and amazing arched windows. They both got ready separately and had a lovely moment together when Abbie arrived at the Distillery. She looked AMAZING. I absolutely loved her rainbow sequin wedding dress, it was like nothing I’d ever seen before. A total showstopper and she looked so glam. David was lost for words when he saw her and I don’t blame him!

They said their vows standing next to an aged whisky barrel and drank whisky (what else!) from the quaich during their relaxed Humanist ceremony. It was really funny and heartfelt and there were a fair few happy tears from their guests.

Quirky wedding venue in Glasgow

After the ceremony we took a few family photos overlooking the River Clyde (and next to a hugely impressive copper still). Then it was time for Abbie, David and I to head out on a little photo adventure.

I spent a lot of years living in Finnieston so I was in my element. I know the area like the back of my hand and knew exactly where to take them to get that alternative feel to their portraits. They really wanted their pictures to stand out so we started off at the murals along SWG3 and got some photos overlooking the Expressway too. It felt like we were on a little adventure together and we had such a laugh.

Back at Clydeside Distillery it was time to party. Abbie and David are real foodies (another reason I love em!) and had organised small plates instead of a more traditional sit down meal. The food was amazing and went down really well with guests who loved the very chilled out atmosphere. Next up was a ceilidh which went down an absolute storm. Everyone was on their feet and dancing straight away, the dancefloor was packed.

I loved Abbie and David’s wedding. It was quirky, alternative, relaxed and really reflected who they are. Clydeside Distillery was the most perfect venue for them and I loved getting the chance to shoot there. Here are some of my favourites from the day.
