Intimate & Romantic Castle Elopement in Scotland

Castle elopement Scotland

If you’re thinking of eloping, there are few places in the world more romantic than Scotland. With historic castles and dramatic mountains to stunning coastlines and majestic hills- you’ll have your work cut out for you choosing just one spot to say your “I Do’s.”

Scotland elopements are becoming increasingly popular, with couples travelling from all over the world to tie the knot in this beautiful country. This year I’ve photographed elopements for Canadians, Americans, Australians and Europeans, all of whom have said that getting married in Scotland was a dream come true.

Paige & Alex are one of those couples, travelling all the way from Michigan, USA to elope in Scotland. Their ties to this country extend above and beyond simply wanting to visit; Alex’s ancestors were Scottish and it was especially meaningful for them to find a spot that held some family history. They chose Mugdock Castle for their elopement, a stunning ruined fortress which dates all the way back to the 13th century and is in the Stirling area where Alex’s family originated from. Choosing to keep their wedding small and intimate, they had just one witness- their best friend Frank, who travelled over with them from America to watch his friends get married abroad.

They chose to incorporate a few special Scottish traditions into their ceremony, with a bagpiper introducing them and a quaich ceremony to solidify their commitment in a meaningful way. After their ceremony we wandered the castle grounds together, capturing some relaxed “just married” photos for them to remember their visit to Scotland by and the promises they made to each other here.

If you’re planning a Scottish elopement and looking for a photographer I would love to hear all about your plans! I’ve photographed elopements all over Scotland, from the Scottish Highlands to the islands and everywhere in between.
