Romantic Scottish woodland ceremony at Boreland Loch Tay wedding venue Perthshire
Meet the lovely J & J. Two brides who planned the romantic woodland wedding of their dreams in super quick time.
Sadly one of their mums was diagnosed with a terminal illness. J & J were (quite rightly) determined that she would be at their wedding so pulled everything together in a short space of time. I am in awe of how they managed to do all their wedding planning and organisation as well as dealing with everything else that life was throwing at them. They are superwomen.

Boreland Loch Tay wedding photography
Out in the Southern Highlands, Boreland Farm is perched high on the hills overlooking Loch Tay. A stunning, rural farm property with award winning accommodation. Perfect, as they say on their website, for everyone. “From parties to privacy. Friends to family.”
The property is surrounded by rolling hills, there are sheep grazing in the fields and the views over the loch are incredible. It was the perfect spot for J & J to get ready. They’d booked out two log cabins and spent the morning surrounded by friends who made sure that everyone was dressed and well fed. Their friends even did their hair and makeup. What a team!
From the moment I walked through the doors of those log cabins I could feel the nervous, excited energy. I love that feeling. I thrive off it. The pre-wedding buzz, there’s nothing quite like it. I spent a few hours darting back and forth between those cabins capturing them all getting ready before the two brides walked down the hill together and we took some relaxed family photographs of them both with their three daughters.

Humanist wedding ceremony at The Birks of Aberfeldy
The Birks of Aberfeldy is a woodland walk, named after Robert Burns’ poem of the same name. J & J had chosen this quiet, woodland spot to say their vows in front of their nearest and dearest. It was so romantic, those autumnal colours and the babbling sound of a nearby brook. I don’t think they could’ve chosen a more picturesque location!
Their Humanist ceremony was so perfectly them. Utterly personal, very relaxed, and laid back with a lot of emotion. The whole family was involved. Their three daughters were so excited to finally, officially become sisters and I adored the heartfelt reading that the brides recited to the three girls, beautiful words from Brene Brown. There wasn’t a dry eye in the woods as the two families came together.
As the brides and I headed off on a little photo adventure everyone else made their way back to Boreland for a post-ceremony party. I have to say, J & J were the best sports. It was a freezing November day but they loved getting some time together as I created some beautiful portraits.
The rest of the day passed in a whirlwind of family, friends, great food, and an energetic ceilidh. Not to mention surprise fireworks! Incredible.
