Annemieke & Hans’ destination wedding at Arthur’s Seat Edinburgh
I’ve got the loveliest micro wedding on the blog for you today. I’m calling it a destination wedding because Annemieke and Hans came all the way from the Netherlands to get married in Edinburgh. They’d originally planned to elope, but when they told their nearest and dearest some of their family asked to come over and join them so it ended up being a small celebration with their loved ones.

Annemieke and Hans are the kindest couple and it’s clear how much they adore each other. From our very first contact, I knew we were all going to get on so well and I was really looking forward to our little photo adventure together. Hans is a keen hobbyist photographer. He takes beautiful photos so I was extra chuffed that they chose me to document their day!
They’d travelled over from the Netherlands with Hans’ children and grandchildren as well as both their siblings. And of course, their guest of honour, their beloved rescue dog. I was so excited by this, I have a rescue dog myself and have such a big soft spot for any canine guests at weddings!
The whole day was super relaxed. That morning Hans and Annemieke got ready together before meeting up with me in the city centre for our photo adventure. We headed into Edinburgh’s Old Town which is one of my favourite parts of the city. I’m a big fan of the tall buildings, the narrow alleyways and the unique and striking architecture. We explored the cobbled streets before making our way to Arthurs Seat for their ceremony.

I love that you can experience a proper hill walk from the heart of the city centre, it’s one of my favourite things about Edinburgh. We all gathered at the foot of the hill – me, Hans and Annemieke, their guests, humanist celebrant and piper – before beginning our ascent. We were piped up in a little procession which felt so special.
When we reached the ceremony spot we gathered in a small semi-circle around Hans and Annemieke to witness them saying their vows. There were beautiful views over Edinburgh, it was perfect weather. Crisp, bright with a soft wind. The ceremony was so intimate and beautiful. Hans and Annemieke finished by drinking whiskey from a Quaich – the loving cup – which symbolises their love and trust for each other.
After some family photos, we wandered down the hill together to where a Landrover Defender was waiting. As a surprise for the newlyweds, their driver had put out hay bales for a little celebration. Everyone mingled as they enjoyed cupcakes and bubbly. It was the perfect end to a really beautiful and relaxed day.
