A Loch Lomond Proposal, Scotland
I’ve got the most exciting shoot to share today – Ben got down on one knee to ask Liz a very important question. And I was there to capture it all!
Ben and Liz live in Canada. They’d spent ages planning the trip of their dreams, an amazing adventure around Scotland. Ben knew he wanted to propose to Liz, and he also knew it would be brilliant to capture it all on camera. Which is where I came in!
Ben got in touch and we chatted about his plans. He obviously wanted his proposal to be a surprise, but he knew that Liz would want to feel good in front of the camera, so he had to tell her that I would be with them, snapping away. Together we planned it under the guise of an adventure shoot. All Liz knew was that they’d be meeting a photographer – me! – and would be having a photoshoot at Loch Lomond.

Proposal photography in Scotland
This holiday in Scotland was something they’d always talked about doing together so Ben knew it would be the perfect time to pop the question. I was meeting them at Firkin Point and decided to add a little extra element for them. I put together a luxury Scottish picnic – a basket full of traditional Scottish goodies including cheese, oatcakes and some delicious shortbread as well as some champagne to celebrate. I set up the picnic blanket in a tranqui spot down by the water, then made my way back up the hill to meet Ben and Liz.
Loch Lomond (and the Trossachs National Park) is quintessential Scotland. The loch is just stunning, surrounded by mountains and acres of forest. The breathtaking scenery makes it super popular with tourists but that day Ben, Liz and I felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was so peaceful and secluded.
Firkin Point is a really picturesque part of the loch, I knew it would be the ideal spot for Ben to propose. After introducing myself I suggested we head back down to the water, to start our shoot. It wasn’t long before Liz spotted the picnic set up, as she turned to Ben with a quizzical look he got down one knee and asked her to marry him. The surprise and joy on Liz’s face was amazing to witness. There were smiles, there were tears and there was a resounding “YES!”
It was the perfect moment and I love that Liz had absolutely had no idea what Ben had been planning. I also adore the fact that she was wearing the most beautiful emerald green dress. Liz is a big fan of Outlander – another reason for their Scottish adventure – and she looked like she was part of the series.
After they’d popped the cork on that champagne (and enjoyed their picnic) the three of us went for a wander around Firkin Point. I wanted to make sure that their photos captured as much “Scotland” as possible. From mountain views to the Loch. From traditional stonework to stormy skies. It was all very Scottish! I wanted them to remember not only that proposal moment but their big adventure away together too.
What an afternoon that was. I found myself getting a bit teary there when Ben proposed. It was amazing to be a part of.
