It’s amazing how quickly babies grow, and this session features gorgeous wee Ishbel with her mum and dad in their beautiful home in Southside of Glasgow. One minute, they’re all scrunched up, falling asleep before finishing a feed; the next they’re giving you the biggest loving smiles, sitting up, batting at toys, and taking in the world around them! These in home family photography sessions in Glasgow are so special to me as each one tells a unique story.

A Natural Progression of Photography
Becky and Ewan booked me for their wedding, and this session was a perfect complement to the photographs from that part of their lives. I was so pleased that they invited me back into their lives, to introduce me to this gorgeous wee smiler! This felt like the natural progression to their wedding photos, celebrating this beautiful life they’ve created with Ishbel at the centre of it. I met Becky and Ewan at their home in the Southside of Glasgow for their in home family photography session. Their home makes the perfect backdrop for these sessions, as it reflects their personality.

In-Home Baby Photography Glasgow
Ishbel was five months old – which is a gorgeous age. This is the point where the smiles they give you are full of love and happiness, and you see little personalities starting to emerge. At five months, they start to pay attention to things that you show them; they love bright colours and shapes and interesting noises. They have better head control, they’re learning to sit up, and develop so many amazing cognitive and motor skills in a few short months. They start to respond to you socially and enjoying the interactions. Often you don’t realise how quickly they’re growing until you’re packing away another age group of clothes they’ve outgrown!

Authentic Family Photos in Glasgow
I love capturing all these relaxed moments at this stage of their life. These small milestones deserve to be celebrated as much as the usual big birthday milestones. This is where my family and baby in-home photography sessions work really well. I love the ordinariness of these sessions. Likewise, I know many parents love reminiscing over candid moments more than the big staged occasions. I find these in-home family sessions bring out a more authentic and natural look to the photography.

The Joy of Every Day Moments
Often it’s the things that happen between the big elaborate displays that we remember most fondly. Cuddles on the bed; sitting round the dinner table; exploring books; snuggles by the window, and playtime in the living room. At this lovely stage babies like Ishbel really respond well to the simplest gestures that they find familiar. There’s no pressure either on mum and dad, you just do what comes naturally to you all. Babies can sometimes be less predictable with anything that’s unusual to them, and that can make for a more fractious session. So at home, snug and cosy and doing what this family does best. My job is just to document it.

Creating Childhood Memories
I love to think one day Ishbel will look over these photos. I have no doubt it’ll trigger fond childhood memories of warmth and love. Perhaps she’ll look at her beautifully decorated nursery in the photos and see her parents talent and creativity. Maybe she’ll look back on her first home and think about this wonderful part of her life.
The home is as much a reflection on Becky and Ewan’s personalities too. They’ve put their own stamp on it with all the wonderful family touches. It’s the setting for this part of their journey too. It’s full of all the elements that make them feel comfortable and let them unwind. When you’re in your own familiar surroundings, you instantly relax more in your photos. I live by the idea that relaxed photo sessions are the key to great photos.
