Edinburgh Proposal Photography – Alyssa and Alyssa
“Rhiannon was an absolute JOY to work with..She couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating, which was especially appreciated as I was a bit anxious trying to pull this off in a new and unfamiliar place. She was communicative and flexible in our preparations and just as delightful on the day of the shoot. We had an amazing shoot on Arthur’s Seat, she captured our love so beautifully and had such a sense of adventure about the whole thing. Our pictures are phenomenal! We even ended up spending the rest of the evening together at a pub to celebrate. Though we’d just met a few hours before she felt like an old pal! I couldn’t speak more highly of our whole experience! We are so grateful to have these amazing images and have this sacred day in our lives captured so perfectly.”
Meet Alyssa and Alyssa – or Alyssa Squared as I affectionately think of them! Just before their trip to Scotland Alyssa got in touch with me, they were travelling over from America and she really wanted to propose to Alyssa whilst on an epic hike. What an amazing idea!
They were basing themselves in Edinburgh and she thought Arthur’s Seat, with its amazing views over the city, would be the perfect spot. I agreed, it’s a fab location and a proper hike right in the heart of Edinburgh, which is pretty unique!

Edinburgh Proposal Photographer
Alyssa already had a really good idea of where she wanted to propose and got in touch with me as she wanted a photographer who not only knew the area, but who wouldn’t be afraid of a hike up a hill (well, a mountain really!) to capture the moment. Arthur’s Seat is an ancient volcano in Holyrood Park, right in the middle of Edinburgh. The rugged summit overlooks the city and there are amazing views all around. It’s one of my favourite spots and I knew Alyssa and Alyssa would love it.
Alyssa and I put a plan together, carefully timing it so we would have some lovely evening light when they reached the summit. It ended up being a little cloudy and blustery but we got some dramatic skies which felt very Scottish! I climbed the hill around half an hour ahead of the two of them. I wanted to make sure I was there in plenty of time and ensure I found the ideal spot for Alyssa to pop the question.
With proposal shoots I always suggest we do a Whatsapp location share so that we can both be aware of where the other is on the day. I knew when Alyssa and Alyssa started their ascent and I’d also asked Alyssa to send me a selfie of the two of them, that way I knew who I would be looking out for.
As they arrived at the summit I moved out of the perfect spot, and they took my place, I got into position (posing as an enthusiastic landscape photographer who was simply admiring the scenery!) and Alyssa asked the all important question. Of course the answer was yes!

LGBTQ+ Proposal Photography in Scotland
It was so cold and windy that day (not what you expect in May, even in Scotland!). I guess the higher you go the colder it gets eh! We explored the summit, taking some photos. Alyssa had had some special flasks made with their names and the engagement date on so they shared a wee dram of Whiskey on Arthur’s Seat. A very Scottish way to celebrate! We made our way slowly back down, stopping off at lots of little viewpoints that showed off Scotland’s rugged landscapes.
Proposal shoots are always special but this one is especially close to my heart as there is so much going on in America at the moment in terms of gay and trans rights. It meant so much to Alyssa and Alyssa that they were able to get engaged and will be able to get married. They both told me how welcome they’d been made to feel in Scotland, sadly that isn’t always the case in their own country. I’m so pleased they’d had a very different experience over here and we finished up the shoot in the pub, having a good old chat about their plans. I’m over the moon for the two of them!
