Hybrid Wedding Films Scotland
So you know you want me as your wedding photographer (yay!) and you’re thinking about adding some film coverage in too. Thing is, you aren’t sure that a videography package is the right fit for your day.
Maybe you don’t love the idea of extra cameras and camera people in your face- especially if you’re having a smaller wedding or elopement. Maybe you’re sticking to a budget. Maybe you just aren’t that keen on a traditional wedding film…
But you do see the value in having some film footage to remember your day by. You want to see some of your moments in their entirety. You love the movement and emotion and atmosphere that can be captured on video. You want to establish the location and venue and surrounding area in a bigger way.
That’s where I come in as a hybrid wedding photographer and filmmaker in Scotland.

What is hybrid wedding photography?
Hybrid wedding photography and film means that I offer both photography and film coverage of your day. My focus is still on the photography side of things- and that will be the priority. But along with those still images, I’ll also be filming short clips throughout your day to capture movement and emotional interactions in a different way.
Your video clips will be created around the quieter moments in between the big ones- for example, I’ll focus on photography for the really key / quick fleeting moments like the rings and the first kiss, but I’ll capture the reactions after each on film. For longer moments like the walk down the aisle or the confetti shot, I capture the still images first- and then I aim to get some video clips of those same moments afterwards. This is a collaborative choice: we have a detailed chat ahead of your day to talk about the specifics of this- and if there are certain moments or activities you would like prioritized on video instead we will plan around that.
I’ll also be sure to capture video footage of the candid moments, the surroundings, and the details of your celebration- so that when you watch your film in the years to come you remember not just what it looked like on your wedding day- but how it felt to be there in those moments.
I will then turn these film clips into a short highlight film that tells your story: your highlight film will be set to music (chosen by you, from a large gallery of royalty free music) and will be unique to your unique wedding day. No two wedding films look the same!
How is hybrid wedding photography different than hiring a wedding videographer?
Important to note: I am not a videographer. I’m a photographer who also shoots and edits films!
Hybrid wedding photography and film packages are an alternative to hiring a videographer- and the film footage you are provided with is very different than a traditional wedding film.
First of all, I create short, highlight wedding films. I don’t create full length feature wedding films. I don’t record any part of the day in it’s entirety- but rather small snapshots from each. I don’t film the full ceremony or speeches, and I don’t guarantee capturing any specifics on film: as noted above your film is secondary to your photos. Your highlight film will be short and sweet, anywhere from 90 seconds to about four minutes depending on how much coverage you’ve booked me for on the day.
Secondly, my video skills are photojournalistic and “in the moment”. I’m not creating cinematic masterpieces. I don’t use additional shooters (it’s just me!), multiple cameras or added lighting. I don’t use fancy gimbals or drones, I don’t set up cameras on tripods, and I don’t use sound recording equipment. I don’t add in special effects or use complicated editing techniques either- I keep things simple and timeless.
On your day, my approach is just the same as it is with photos. I won’t “direct” you or ask you to repeat ‘moments’, and I won’t manipulate your day in any way- apart from helping to coordinate any planned photos you request and giving you some light guidance on the parts of the day that are a little less candid. Think documentary approach, rather than directorial. I aim to be a fly on the wall, capturing your day as unobtrusively as possible.
When it comes to the editing, I will bring the video clips together into highlight film that tells the story of your day as it happened. I like to edit in chronological order, staying true to the timeline of your wedding and incorporating the surroundings into the edit along with footage of the two of you and the people you love.
In short, hybrid wedding films do not replace having a videographer there on your day nor do they provide you with a full length feature wedding film. They are something entirely different- a short, documentary style story of your day told through mini clips and quiet, candid moments. Simple, straightforward and unique to your day.
Side note: Videographers are WONDERFUL and are absolutely the right fit for many couples. They are the video experts, and they create beautiful feature films to remember a wedding day by. If you are considering a videographer but don’t know where to look- I can recommend a great one for you! My hybrid packages are not to take away from the incredible work that Scottish videographers do- this is simply another option for couples who want a little bit of video alongside their photos and are not wanting to add extra people/costs/services to their day.
What is the cost of your hybrid wedding photography + film package?
Hybrid wedding coverage is perfect for those working with a smaller budget as it’s less of an investment than bringing in a full videography package. I offer hybrid wedding photography & film packages in Glasgow and across Scotland, the UK and Europe.
I offer hybrid coverage as an add on to all of my wedding packages: from my wee wedding & elopement package to my full day wedding photography package and everything in between. As I am already there on the day for the agreed upon amount of coverage, I simply add a little bit of extra time in to allow me to capture footage of the surroundings and details, as well as the added time editing your video footage together into your finished film.
Hybrid coverage starts from £300 as an add on to my wee wedding (two hour) package, for full details and packages please drop me an email at hello@rhiannoneale.com.

My Approach to hybrid filmmaking
Relaxed, friendly and unobtrusive– just like it is for photography!
Your wedding day is for you to enjoy- not for me to direct. My goal is for you to be able to be present in the moment- to make sure that you and your guests are comfortable and feel like you can just be yourselves, all day long.
I’m not the kind of photographer/ filmmaker who will order you around all day or spend hours posing you and your families; 90% of your day will be captured as candidly as possible, and when I do need to set up any “planned” family photos or guide you along, I’ll make sure I keep things relaxed and fun.

What does a wedding highlight film include?
There is no “typical” film as each day is so different- and as such, the wee moments are varied too!
My focus is on documenting the story of your day- with a mix of the big and quiet moments, the details, the people, the surroundings and of course- the two of you!
Highlight films vary in length, depending on how much coverage you have booked me fore on the day and can range anywhere from 90 seconds up to about four minutes long.

FAQ
Are you willing to travel for weddings and elopements?
YES!!! would be an understatement! There is nothing I love more than exploring a new place, and I travel as often as possible both for work and in my downtime. I’ve visited 25 countries to date and have explored Scotland from top to bottom and coast to coast with my camera in tow! Though based in Glasgow, I cover all of Scotland, the UK, Europe and Canada and I am happy to travel anywhere within the central belt of Scotland for portrait sessions too. Please get in touch for a travel quote at hello@rhiannoneale.com
Are digital images included in your packages?
Yes, all packages include your high resolution, edited digital images with printing rights (no watermark).
Do you offer albums, photo books and prints?
Fine art wedding albums & photobooks and a variety of prints and wall art products are available to add on to any package.
How long before we can see our images?
Wedding images are usually ready to share in eight weeks. I know you’ll be anxious to see your photos, so an (optional) online sneak peek is always ready within three days of your wedding.
Do you do any posed/formal wedding photos?
Of course! Although my focus is on capturing your day candidly, most couples still want to have a few ‘formal’ portraits with their family and friends. We’ll put together a list before the day to keep things running quickly and smoothly, and even these planned shots will be done in a relaxed, informal style.
What happens if you fall ill and can’t shoot my wedding?
I always have a colleague pencilled in to fill in for me in case of emergency, so you wouldn’t be left short! I work alongside a handful of amazing photographers who are ready to fill in on short notice if something were to happen to me. I also belong to an emergency network of professional photographers who help each other out in the unlikely event of an emergency, so there’s even a backup for my backup – I like to be prepared!
What happens if your equipment malfunctions?
My cameras all have dual card slots (instant backup!) and I always carry additional equipment with me just in case. I shoot on two cameras all day, and I also carry a backup camera body, variety of lenses and extra batteries/memory cards to every shoot so I am prepared for anything.
Are you insured?
Yes, I am fully insured with both professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
